Check out this clip of the wonderful Candi Gorski reading to her 2nd grade class. In teaching comprehension Candi completely submerged her students in the Native American culture described in the book. She expertly extended the lesson with the DREAM CATCHER project shown in the video. Her students thought critically about the Ojibway culture in many ways over the course of the project. Candi touched on the essentials of project based learning in a fun and authentic way by setting the scene with traditional Native American Music during the reading and activities, collaborating with learning buddies for a multi-age collaborative experiences, incorporating Native American cultural artifacts across her curriculum, and focusing on the critical content piece of reading comprehension. This type of structure is a great option for short and extended projects...thanks for sharing Candi! Well done!
